Cabinet approval has been granted to provide an opportunity for the employees attached to the Samurdhi Development Authority (SDA) to be absorbed into the Department of Samurdhi Development (DSD), Cabinet Spokesman Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said.
He was speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department.
When establishing the Department of Divineguma Development by the Divineguma Act No. 01 of 2013, opportunities were given to the employees attached to the Samurdhi Development Authority at that time to be attached to the Department of Divineguma Development by that time with a pension as per their preference subject to provisions of that act at several occasions.
However, it has been recognised that an approximate number of 3,000 employees are still available who could not revise their preference due to various circumstances.
Accordingly, the Cabinet granted approval to the proposal submitted by the President Ranil Wickremesinghe to provide opportunity for the said group of employees to be absorbed into the Department of Samurdhi Development within the prevailing legal framework in consultation with the Public Service Commission.
