CaFFE complains to EC about NPP nurse’s meeting

The Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) has complained to the Chairman of the Election Commission (EC) that the participation of government nurses in uniform at the National All Ceylon Nurses’ Conference held day before yesterday at the Youth Services Council in Maharagama under the leadership of National People’s Power (NPP) leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, is a violation of election regulations.

The presence of nurses in their uniforms was clearly a usage of public property for party politics,CaFFE Executive Director Ahmed Manas Makeen said.

CaFFE has informed the National Election Commission in writing that the use of uniforms provided by the public tax money for political purposes is a breach of the Establishment Code and also the election regulations.

The CaFFE Executive Director stated that although any person as a citizen of a country has the right to stand up for their professional rights and the ability to stand up for their political right, it is illegal and unethical to engage in those activities while wearing their professional uniforms as government employees.

The Executive Director has further requested the Chairman of the Election Commission to call for a report from the Secretary of the Ministry with regard to this incident.
