Captaining Isipathana is what I cherish very much, says Janith

Janith Serasinghe played school rugby as a third row forward for his alma mater Isipathana College, Colombo. He captained Isipathana 1st XV team in 2019 at the Inter-School rugby tournament and went on to represent the Sri Lanka Junior national fifteen a side team. “He is the nephew of former Isipathana and CR & FC flanker Janaka “Chimpo” Perera”.

Speaking exclusively to Daily News, Janith said “I had a strong desire from my childhood since I started watching rugby matches on the Television and that’s why I took to the world of sports”.

“First of all my family supported me then the school and the coaches supported me to come this far. So I’m grateful for the support I have received from all of them throughout this journey so far”. “My school rugby team and their courage and spirit made me choose rugby and that’s the reason why I chose the game of rugby”.

“My top priority is to go forward in my career and education. My favourite holiday destination is Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka”and my favourite player is Pathum Nissanka and whenever I get free time, I watch rugby matches on YouTube and listen to music”. “Actually it’s not easy to become a rugby player. Because It totally depends on our hard work”.

“Being adjudged as the best player for the first time in the ‘Milo’ knock out tournament in 2019 was my most unforgettable incident thus far in life, and to date I really cherish that moment”.

“I always try to be a better version of myself on the rugby field, so I constantly compare myself to Kandy Sports Club Captain Nigel Ratwatte ”. “My greatest accomplishment so far in life was to be a player in the Isipathana Rugby team, since it’s a rare chance and honour. I’m really happy because I achieved that goal successfully and also I went one step further by captaining my school as well”.

“Even though I have received many compliments, being a good captain in the Isipathana team is the one I cherish very much”. “Yes of course. I am very happy with all my achievements thus far as a young man and I always believe in what I do”.

“I got unconscious in a cup final match we played and that’s my most embarrassing moment on the rugby field that I will never forget”. “To be patient, self disciplined adaptability and self care and that’s what the pandemic has taught me in life thus far”. “In life I like to describe myself as a hardworking person “.

“When I grow up I wanted to become a good rugby player in international level”
