With the flood situation in Galle and Matara districts, people in the area should be careful in consuming food and drink, Health Ministry’s Epidemiology Department Director Dr. Samitha Ginige
said yesterday (10). He also said that due to the contamination of the water sources in the area, diseases such as diarrhoea may spread unless proper hygiene is not followed.
He instructed to obtain TCL from the office of the local medical officer of health and get the water sources cleaned.
Water should be boiled and filtered until the water sources are purified and if raw vegetables and fruits are consumed, they should be washed thoroughly.
He said that as much as possible, cooked foods should be consumed on these days. He also stated that to protect the food from flies, the food consumed should be closed always, and with the flood situation, the breeding of flies is also high these days.
