The Constitutional Council (CC) has unanimously approved the President’s recommendation to re-appoint Supreme Court Justice Buwaneka Aluwihare and appoint Supreme Court Justice E.A.G.R. Amarasekara as members of the Judicial Services Commission (JSC).
The Constitutional Council has also decided to publish the relevant notice in the weekend newspapers calling for applications from qualified persons to be appointed as members of the commissions specified in the schedule of the Article 41 B of the Constitution and accordingly to give wide publicity.
A meeting of the Constitutional Council was held last Tuesday chaired by its Chairperson, Speaker of the House Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, where the above mentioned decisions were taken.
Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva and NC members who are not Parliamentarians, Dr. Prathap Ramanujam, Dr. Dilkushi Anula Wijesundara and Dr. Dinesha Samrarathne participated in the meeting. MP Sagara Kariyawasam and Kabir Hashim did not participate in the meeting due to unavoidable circumstances.
