A high-ranking police officer mentioned that since there has been a suspicion that a racket of selling kidneys to foreigners has taken place in the private hospital in Borella, the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) is conducting investigations paying special attention to that.
Accordingly, the Colombo Crime Division is currently taking measures to collect information on the number of kidney transplants performed in this hospital in the past few years. They are also gathering information about people who underwent kidney transplants and organ donors.
Mohammad Basir Mohammad Rajabdeen alias Bhai who is identified as a resident of Kajimawatta, Colombo 15, a leading broker in the kidney racket, who was arrested Monday (5) after surrendering to the Colombo Crimes Division, has revealed many details regarding this racket.
He has also said that the broker has connected many people to donate kidneys to this hospital.The Crime Division will take action in the future to identify those who received kidney transplants donated by them.
The Colombo Crime Division has also elicited information that there are about six brokers in connection with this kidney racket.
