CDB in collaboration with IFC conducts series of capacity building programmes

Focus on building capacity among women in Sri Lanka, Citizens Development Business Finance PLC (CDB) collaborated with International Finance Corporation (IFC) to conduct a series of capacity building programmes recently.

The first programme was held at the CDB Auditorium with women entrepreneurs, women start-ups and potential women entrepreneurs residing in Colombo and its suburbs and the second was held at the CDB Regional Office in Kurunegala for residents in the Kurunegala district. The ultimate goal is to empower these women entrepreneurs with financial literacy and financial inclusivity.

The collaboration between IFC and CDB aims to share knowledge and educate these entrepreneurs to develop and improve existing businesses and enable start-ups to understand and apply the imperatives to business to make it a going concern.

Focusing on the key aspects of entrepreneurial success, the programme content included financial management and digital marketing as well.

CDB Wings Eco System Manager Digital, Michelle Jackson said; “The concept was to provide financial inclusivity for all women in Sri Lanka, with a key focus to empower women to break barriers, improve confidence in their capabilities, build their businesses and by value adding financial literacy into the equation, give financial inclusion to all women in Sri Lanka.”

The interactive training was the ideal ground to foster networking and collaboration among this cluster of entrepreneurial women, as CDB’s capacity building programmes are built on the strong belief of a supportive community to take business and the nation’s economy forward.

“This is something we strongly believe in and judging by the interactions these women had, sharing experiences and insights and forging valuable connections, we know we are on the right path to giving these women the tools and skills to be successful. From our end, CDB will continue providing support, resources and opportunities for women entrepreneurs,” stated Jackson. CDB hopes to continue the series with similar programmes to ensure that financial inclusivity is accessible to women around the country.

The Wings Eco-System is linked to the verticals of financial inclusion and empowerment of women entrepreneurs which are embedded in the CDB Sustainability Agenda’s social consciousness vertical. The Sustainability Agenda is embedded in CDB’s overall Business Strategy which is based on the two pillars of Sustainability and Tech Disruption.
