Central Bank (Amendment) Bill can be passed with simple majority – SC

Subject to amendments given in the determination :

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena yesterday announced that he has received the determination of the Supreme Court regarding the Central Bank (Amendment) Bill.

The Supreme Court has determined that none of the provisions in the proposed Central Bank of Sri Lanka Bill are inconsistent with the Constitution.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced the determination of the Supreme Court at the commencement of yesterday’s Parliament sitting.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka Bill, which will be the governing legislation of the Central Bank once it is enacted, was presented to Parliament last month.

The Supreme Court has determined that the proposed Bill can be passed by a simple majority in Parliament, subject to amendments mentioned in the determination.
