Colombo Hockey and Football Club (CH and FC), known for its rich rugby heritage, is preparing under the leadership of former Wesley College captain Avantha Lee for the upcoming Dialog Inter-Club ‘A’ Division League Rugby season scheduled to kick off in early December.
Seeking to reclaim their past glory in rugby, CH and FC will rely on the expertise of Avantha, supported by a line up of seasoned players. Among these are former Royal College, CH and FC, and Sri Lanka centre Janidu Dilshan, former Isipathana and Sri Lanka Sevens player Ravindu
Hettiarachchi, former Peterite Centre Theekshana Dassanayake, and former Thomian Full back Ovin Hettiarachchi.
In an effort to strengthen the team, two exceptional Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club players, last year’s Clifford Cup Runners-up, have joined the Maitland Crescent Club. The new additions, scrum half Harsha Maduranga and flanker Gihan Madushanka, are expected to further enhance the team’s capabilities. The coaching responsibilities fall on the shoulders of Sanath Marits, formerly with Havelocks and this year’s successful Peterite coach, who guided an undefeated double champion team in the ‘A’ Division League and Knockout
With a proven track record, Coach Marits is expected to guide the Maitland Crescent team to an improved performance. Assisting him will be former Peterite and Havelocks fly-half Lakala Perera as the Assistant Coach, supported by Ransilu Jayathilaka in the role of Fitness Trainer.
The combined expertise of the coaching staff and the influx of new talent is anticipated to elevate CH and FC’s performance in the upcoming season.
The club’s aspirations to reclaim their former glory seem bolstered by the promising team line up and the guidance of experienced coaches.
