The CH and FC will look to bounce back with an improved performance when they take on Navy SC in their SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament second match at the Race course Grounds in Colombo today. The kick-off is at 3.30 p.m.
The team from Maitland Crescent will be determined to make amends for last week’s setback after they suffered a shock 30-22 defeat at the hands of Air Force SC in their opening fixture of the tournament at Ratmalana. The CH and FC will be still pondering what really went wrong last week as they were cruising along convincingly at one stage having built up a commanding 22-9 lead early in the second half.
The Sailors will certainly look to draw inspiration from that outing, where they staged a superb second half rally to turn the game in their favour. The last year’s encounter too turned out to be a thrilling contest where Navy SC produced a remarkable second half performance before going down 22-28, after trailing 5-28 at half time. On that occasion CH and FC did all the scoring in the first half with Prasath Madusanka, Avantha Lee, Rohitha Rajapaksa and Johann Ogbebor scoring a try each while Nirosh Perera, Janith Laksara and Adeesha Weerathunga did the honours for Navy SC.
Army SC v Police SC
Meanwhile, Army SC and Police SC will have the chance to record their first win of the tournament when they clash in another Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament match at Ratmalana today. The kick-off is at 3.30 p.m. Both teams had a disappointing start to the season last week where Army SC were trounced 8-46 by the defending champions Kandy SC at the Nittawela Stadium while Police SC suffered a shock 7-15 defeat at the hands of Navy SC at Welisara.
Police SC, of course, will start favourites considering their performance last week where they simply threw away the game, which they should have won convincingly having led 7-5 at half time. Even then, Army SC will be determined to produce an improved performance and will be keen to pull off their first win of the league tournament.
