The Chinese government has removed the long-standing barriers to the import of chicken and eggs produced in this country as well as pineapples to China said Agriculture and Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.

He said that the Chinese delegation led by Chinese Deputy Minister of General Administration of Customs Wang Lingjung, who recently visited Sri Lanka made this announcement.

Sri Lankan pineapple cultivators and exporters as well as poultry product manufacturers will be able to export poultry products, eggs and pineapples to the Chinese market.

The Ministry said it took serious effort to remove the obstacles that existed in our country to export these agricultural products to the Chinese market. A comprehensive process is to be adopted to ensure the quality of poultry products in the country’s market, especially the way pineapple is grown in the country.

The Minister also said that due to the commitment made by the officials of the Agriculture and Plantation Industries Ministry, the effort to get market opportunities from China has been successful for our country.
