China’s Zhong Wei Int’l Corporation eyes major projects in Lanka

One of the leading design and construction companies in China, Zhong Wei International Corporation has opened a regional office (Zhong Wei Engineering Consulting Company Ltd.) in Colombo and is looking at investing in mega projects.

Chairman of the company, Luo Xiaolan said that they are keen to be involved in mega development projects in the Colombo Port City, Hambantota Port, Highway Network and also looking at investing in power generation projects.

Sri Lanka and China have always maintained close bilateral relations several centuries ago. “In recent times China has been a key player not only in providing infrastructure to the government but also several Chinese companies to have invested in Sri Lanka.”

She said that their parent company was set up in 2009 in China and has been expanding its global footprint and has made investments beyond China in Hong Kong, Cambodia, Macau, Myanmar, Mozambique and Indonesia. “We had also planned to enter Sri Lanka but the economic crisis delayed our plans.

“However with Sri Lanka recovering faster than expected we have now decided to enter Sri Lanka and have formed a joint venture company with Sri Wing Lanka Pvt. Ltd and have also opened our office.”

“We specialise in cost management affairs and have been providing engineering consultancy services and are engaged in world-class construction projects.” These include a 4 KM undersea road network in Hong Kong, over 60 stories of apartment, and office complexes in China and several other countries.”

Zhongwei also has participated in over 30 national, provincial, and municipal-level industry standard formulation and research projects, and has been recognized as the preferred consulting firm by the Guangdong Provincial Government’s audit repository while repeatedly receiving public commendation from industry regulators. Today they are a USD 500 million annual turnover company.

Backed by a global perspective and profound cross-border project consulting expertise, Zhongwei has successfully provided top-notch consultancy services for several Guangdong-Macao cooperative construction projects.

She said that they completed a fact-finding mission in Sri Lanka with three other company officers and the feedback they received from both the private sector and government was very positive. “We will evaluate the proposals which we received and company back in two months for follow-up action.”

She said that in a bid to provide Engineering management services to youth in Sri Lanka, they also hope to offer around 50 fully funded scholarships to Sri Lankan students to study in leading Chinese universities. “This will be done through our local partner’s sister company Sri Wing Education.”
