The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Human Trafficking and Maritime Crime Investigation Division and a team of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) left for Oman on Saturday for further investigations regarding the trafficking of women from Sri Lanka to Oman via tourist visas and selling them for money through employment agencies in that country.
This group is scheduled to stay in Oman for about five days.During this trip, this investigation team is slated to record statements from the Sri Lankan women who are currently staying at the safe house of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment under the supervision of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman.
An investigation team had gone to Oman on October 4 as well. Investigations were conducted there regarding the employment of women from Sri Lanka for prostitution.
