Colombo Port City’s potential for boosting tourism explored

Deputy Minister of Tourism Chaminda Ranasinghe led a high-level delegation to Port City Colombo on Wednesday to explore its potential for boosting Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, with a special focus on enhancing Sri Lanka’s purpose-driven tourism offering and positioning Sri Lanka as a global tourism hub in China and beyond.

The team engaged in highly productive discussions with CHEC Port City Colombo’s leadership, including Xiong Hongfeng – Managing Director, Stan Li – Chief Marketing Officer, Nishan Silva – General Manager, Strategy and Transaction Services, and Shalaka Wijeyaratne – Executive Director, Investment Promotion and Marketing, a statement issued by the Ministry said.

Port City Colombo is a transformative project that holds the capacity to help achieve a target of five million annual tourist arrivals while also driving increased foreign direct investments into Sri Lanka. Equipped with world-class infrastructure, luxury experiences, and integrated business and entertainment offerings, it is a magnet for high-value travellers and investors, particularly from Sri Lanka’s key tourist markets including China.

Additionally, it offers a fantastic opportunity for local people to add to their itineraries as a must-visit destination in Colombo, improving the appeal of our commercial capital.

The discussions reaffirmed the importance of leveraging Port City Colombo’s potential to transform Sri Lanka’s tourism landscape and build stronger partnerships between Sri Lanka and China.

Promoting Sri Lanka as a premier destination for Chinese travellers, enhancing facilities, ensuring seamless connectivity, and launching strategic marketing campaigns, can elevate Sri Lanka as a top-tier global tourism hub.

Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) Chairman Buddhika Hewawasam, Foreign Minister’s Coordinating Secretary Chaminda Jayanatha, and Deputy Minister’s Personal Secretary Sameera Kodithuwakku were also present.
