The Government has made plans to pay compensation to farmers for crop damage caused by natural disasters and wild animals in the 2024 Yala Season before January 5.
From March to October 2024, various crops, including paddy, suffered damages due to these adverse conditions. The primary causes of damage were drought, floods and wild elephant attacks.
Compensation is set to be paid to all districts by January 5. Nearly 80 percent of the affected farmers have already received around Rs. 80 million. The remaining farmers will receive their compensation by January 5. The compensation will be directly credited to the farmers’ bank accounts, ensuring a careful, systematic, and transparent distribution process.
The compensation for the 2024/2025 Maha Season is expected to be paid by early February.
