Two lecturers have submitted two complaints to Police regarding a university employee who organized a ceremony at the Jaffna University to commemorate those who died in the war. One lecturer had forwarded his complaint to the Jaffna Police and the other lecturer had sent his complaint to the Inspector General on Monday (13).
These complaints claimed that while the Mullivaikkal Mahaviru Memorial built in the Jaffna University grounds is accepted by all as an illegal construction, the memorial cannot be allowed to commemorate those who died in the war.
The lecturers have stated in their complaints that the university students organise events to celebrate the war dead during this period, but the use of university employees was a serious offence.
The two complainants have requested that this person be immediately arrested and dealt with according to the law. Jaffna University students have organized various events to commemorate those who died in the war from November 20 to 27 at many places in the Northern Province on the request of Tamil politicians in the North.
