Country cannot weaken its Intelligence apparatus – Minister

“We cannot let the executive, legislature or the judiciary be destroyed by attacking the Intelligence apparatus of the country, Chief Government Whip, Minister Prasanna Ranatunga told Parliament yesterday.

He emphasised that the people behind this conspiracy should be investigated. “Some are trying to make allegations against the current government regarding the Easter Sunday attack indirectly. In the past, they created distrust among the people about the Executive and finally expelled the former President. At present, efforts are being made to attack the present Executive.

Even they created the opinion that the country doesn’t want all 225 MPs. Some people are also working to create certain ideas to destroy the trust in the judiciary. This is a very dangerous situation. We need to find out who is behind this,”Ranatunga said.

“I don’t think that any political party or person approves the attack on Easter Sunday. Some are trying to accuse the current President of trying to cover up those involved in the terrorist attack. The whole country knows that the current President was not even called to the Security Council meeting at that time”.

“As far as I know, the FBI did an investigation into this terrorist attack. That report was handed over to the authorities. Please table this report in Parliament. Action should be taken to make people aware of this report. If we want to do a more international investigation than the FBI organization, we should talk about how it should be done,” he said.
