A young couple lost their lives while travelling on a motorcycle in Bopagoda area of Akuressa after a collision between a van and the motorcycle on Wednesday (25).
The deceased are 38-year-old businessman Indika Sampath and his wife, 32-year-old Bhagya Boralassa, who works as a teacher at MR/Mederipitiya Junior College.
The accident took place while the couple was travelling from the Deniyaya area to the deceased’s home in Mullatiyana. The van which was involved in the accident was running from Akuressa towards Siyambalagoda and the motorcycle was running from Siyambalagoda towards Akuressa. The accident occurred when a motorcycle collided with a van in Bopagoda area.
The woman who was seriously injured in the accident was admitted to Akuressa District Hospital where she died. Her husband’s condition was serious and he died after being admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
The driver of the van was arrested by Akuressa Police. On the instructions of Akuressa Police Chief Inspector Dhammika Rajapakse, Police officers led by SI Hettiarachchi, Traffic Division Station Officer are conducting investigations.
