Couples hinder train travel on Matale line

The Matale Police said that 26 underaged couples were taken into custody yesterday (2) for obstructing train travel between Matale and Kandy.

A train that started travelling from Matale to Kandy had proceeded about half a kilometer from the station and could not move forward due to couples blocking the railroad at a narrow place near the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya in Matale.

The train driver had informed the Matale Police Station over the phone because they were blocking the railway line. The Matale OIC had deployed three Police teams and took steps to take 26 school-going minors between 13 and 16 who were on both sides of the railway line.

The parents of the children who were taken into Police custody were brought to the Police station and the children were strongly warned and were handed over to their parents.
