Court refuses SLC President’s interim injunction appeal against Arjuna Ranatunga

The application for an interim injunction was refused yesterday (23) by the District Judge of Colombo, Sandun Vithana in the case instituted by the present Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket Shammi Silva against Arjuna Ranatunga, the former Captain of the Sri Lankan Cricket team, the Captain of the 1996 World Cup winning cricket team, and former Minister of Ports and Aviation, claiming Rs. 6 billion on an alleged defamatory claim.

President’s Counsel Dr. Romesh De Silva, President’s Counsel Kuvera De Zoysa and Attorney-At-Law Pasindu Bandara, instructed by Sanjaya Fonseka appeared for the plaintiff Shammi Silva. Senior Counsel Athula Bandara Herath appeared along with Ama Karunaratne, Chathusala Jayasinghe and Prasad Sirimanne instructed by Nirosha Herath for the defendant Arjuna Ranatunga.

The current Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket Shammi Silva had sued Arjuna Ranatunga in May 2021.

Arjuna Ranatunga was sued by Shammi Silva for Rs. 6 billion over an alleged defamatory statement that was made by Arjuna in a video referring Shammi as being corrupt.
