CP Public Services Commission member removed

Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage has taken steps to remove a member of the Central Province Public Services Commission Keerthi Wickremaratne, who had become a candidate for the 2024 Presidential Election without any prior notice and obtaining permission.

The Governor said that it has been observed that Wickremaratne has violated the circular of the Election Commission by engaging in active politics and presenting himself as a candidate for the Presidential Election, while being a member of the Central Province Public Services Commission.

Accordingly, since Wickremaratne, who is a candidate for the 2024 presidential election, is no longer a member of the Provincial Public Services Commission who can act independently and impartially, steps were taken to remove him as a member of the Provincial Public Services Commission with immediate effect based on Section 154 (c) of the 13th Amendment of theConstitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and Provincial Council Act No. 42 of 1987, Section 33 (3), the Governor said.
