Customs Inspector nabbed for abetting smuggling of marijuana

The Police Narcotics Bureau had arrested a Customs Inspector on Wednesday (25) for aiding and abetting the smuggling of marijuana into Sri Lanka.

The Customs Inspector was arrested subsequent to an investigation based on a complaint made by the Sri Lanka Customs to the Police Narcotics Bureau on October 18.

The Police Narcotics Bureau stated that this Customs Inspector is a resident of Rukmale, Pannipitiya and is 27 years of age.

He had recently come to clear a parcel of imported goods from a warehouse in Colombo. The Customs officials who conducted the clearance procedures at the warehouse found that it contained 10 kilos and 417 grams of marijuana. Accordingly, the Customs authorities had informed the Police Narcotics Bureau who arrested this officer. Customs officials took the parcel into custody.
