Daily wage earner from Algama, a victim in train strike

The victim who died while travelling on the footboard of the Polgahawela bound train from Colombo Fort after knocking on the Bemmulla train station platform and falling on 10 July evening has been identified as a 51-year-old man named Kaluarachchige Jayantha Kaluarachchi, a resident of Algama area at Medagama in Warakapola, Police Media Division said. Bemmulla Police said to Daily News yesterday (11) that the victim, a bachelor, was engaged as a daily wage labourer.

The sister of the deceased named Kaluarachchige Renuka Malkanthie, resident of E/52, Egodagama in Algama has identified the body of the victim at the Watupitiwala hospital as of her brother’s.

The body of the deceased is currently kept at the mortuary of the Watupitiwala Hospital and the post mortem will be conducted today at the hospital, Bemmulla Police said.

The incident took place on Wednesday 10 July due to the shortage of trains running on the Colombo – Polgahawela railway line as a result of the railway strike.
