The Election Commission (EC) said that the candidates who contested the recently concluded Parliamentary elections, the secretaries of the parties represented by the candidates and the leaders of the independent groups should submit their election income and expenditure reports on or before December 6.
In a statement yesterday (2), EC Chairman R.M.A.L.Rathnayake said the reports should be prepared separately and handed over to the returning officers of the districts where the candidates contested on or before midnight of December 6.
The EC further said that the National List candidates should submit their election income and expenditure reports to the Election Secretariat Headquarters.
Special units for accepting election income expenditure reports of candidates will be open in all districts till 6 pm on normal working days and till 12 midnight on December 6 so that the candidates, secretaries of the parties represented by the candidates, leaders of Independent groups and candidates in the National Lists can hand over the election income expenditure reports.
Also, the EC has stated in its announcement that not handing over the relevant reports by the deadline given is an offence under the Election Expenditure Regulation Act, and legal action will be taken against those who fail to handover their election income expenditure reports.
