Dengue eradication programs conducted island-wide

As the spread of dengue disease among urban and semi-urban environments in Sri Lanka is becoming a major health problem, the Ministry of Health and the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) are continuing various programs throughout the country to prevent the spreading of the disease.
The Ministry of Health is also working to strengthen the treatment services. As per the instructions of the Minister of Health, a special discussion related to the strengthening of dengue mosquito control, control and treatment services for dengue patients was held recently at the Ministry of Health under the chairmanship of the Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala. The Health Secretary instructed the officials to take all necessary and possible steps.

Also, a special anti-dengue program was recently implemented in the public health inspection division of Ratmalana Medical Officer of Health, Colombo District. 26 premises have been identified. Notices were issued to 112 persons and legal measures were taken in relation to 07 premises. The Health Secretary also arranged to inquire about its progress.

Dengue is on the rise in Sri Lanka and more cases are reported in the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy, Kalutara, Puttalam, Galle, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Ratnapura and Trincomalee. Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Health Secretary, advised the officials to follow the possible short-term and long-term methods and implement the programs in the above districts as well as other districts of the island as soon as possible.

The health secretary also said that if there is any shortage of physical and human resources related to the activities such as keeping the environment clean, fumigation, and liquid spraying, he will directly intervene and provide the relevant resources. as in the armed forces
