Deputy Minister of Finance Anil Jayantha Fernando today dismissed as “completely incorrect and misleading” claims that the European Union’s GSP+ trade concession to Sri Lanka has been suspended.
Responding to MP Harshana Rajakaruna in Parliament, Fernando clarified that the GSP+ scheme remains fully effective until 31 December 2028.
He noted that under the updated framework, the number of required international conventions has increased from 27 to 32, but Sri Lanka continues to benefit from preferential market access.
The Deputy Minister further said the Cabinet has appointed a committee to examine preferential market access under the GSP+ scheme.
He added that a separate committee has been tasked with preparing a new application to ensure continuity beyond 2028. (Newswire)
