Sachindra Dilum Sanjeeva, a fashion design graduate of the Moratuwa University has produced a bar of new chocolate mixed with woodapple.
After completing his graduation, he was employed in the garment industry and left that industry due to the economic crisis caused by COVID-19. He started a business of dehydrating fruits and exporting them. After a long period of tests, he has succeeded in producing this mixed chocolate. Sachindra said that he would get the SLS certificate as well as a patent for his innovation.
At present, Sachindra dehydrates fruits such as mango, rambuttan, watermelon, star fruit, waraka, and cashew nuts targeting the export market in Japan. He hopes to introduce the new wood apple-mixed chocolate to the local as well as foreign markets.
“After getting my degree in fashion design, I worked in some major garment factories here. Then in 2022, I quit my job and started my own business. In the face of the economic crisis, we had to find alternatives to move forward in life,” he said.
“Because I didn’t have a lot of money to invest and because there is a significant demand for food regardless of the economic situation, I turned to the field of food dehydration. Initially, I started the business by gaining knowledge on the Internet. I thought why can’t a bar of chocolate be produced from wood apples found in excess in the season in Sri Lanka? At first, a powder was made by dehydrating wood apples. By mixing it with cocoa in a certain proportion, wood apple chocolate was successfully produced. In the future, I will come up with more innovative products,” says Sachindra Dilum Sanjeeva, founder of Suchee Holdings.
