Dharmasoka and Mahinda declared joint champions

Henry Steele Olcott Memorial Cricket Tournament:

Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda, and Mahinda College, Galle, were named joint champs of the school boys segment of the Colonel Henry Steele Olcott cricket tournament hosted by Rahula College at the Uyanwatta Stadium yesterday.

Mahinda College elected to bat first in the final and the umpires called off the game due to bad light after the first ball was bowled.

In the qualifying rounds, Mahinda College won all three games to lead group ‘A’ while Dharmasoka, Ananda, and hosts Rahula won one game each but Dharmasoka qualified for the semi-finals on a faster net run rate.

In Group B, Dharmaraja won all three games while Nalanda won two games to qualify for the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, Mahinda powered by an unbeaten 29 from Dhanuja Induwara overcame Nalanda by two wickets to qualify for the final while Dharmasoka crushed Dharmaraja by 31 runs to qualify for the final.
