DIG Jayasundara to coordinate with LGBTQ community

DIG Renuka Jayasundara, the Chief of Police in charge of the Child and Women Abuse Prevention Division has been appointed to coordinate with the LGBTQ community in Sri Lanka when they deal with the Police about various issues faced by them.

In addition, the Inspector General of Police appointed the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, the head of the Police Administrative Department to work directly with the LGBTQ community on behalf of him.

These appointments have been made after a discussion held by a group of representatives of the LGBTQ community and their lawyers with the Police at the Police headquarters last Friday.

Representatives of several organisations representing the LGBTQ community have participated in this meeting. Here, the main focus has been on preventing the inconveniences that the LGBTQ community faces in dealing with the police.Officials of the Ministry of Women, Children Affairs and Social Empowerment have also participated in this discussion.
