The Sri Lankan Government has undertaken a journey to accelerate the digitalization in Sri Lanka and Digital Economic Framework 2030 will be launched by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in November this year.

This was stated by the State Minister of Technology, Kanaka Hearth at the Global Digital Public Infrastructure Summit and Exhibition held in Pune, India.

“The most important project my ministry has undertaken is the Sri Lanka is the Unique Digital Identity Project (SL-UDI) and we have recognized it as mandatory for Digital Transformation in Sri Lanka.”

SL-UDI Project is a live example of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) adoption in Sri Lanka. The Modular Open-Source Identification Platform (MOSIP) is used in the proposed national identity card management system. We have started the primary procurement process towards this and the preopcjt will go live by the end of 2024. The Minister also highlighted the climate change initiatives that the Sri Lankan Government has undertaken.

“We are closely working with Bill and Melinda Gates foundation on climate change policy. In addition the Ministry of Technology (MOT) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health has developed a road map for Digital Health Architecture Blueprint. MOT is in the process of designing and developing Health Registry Services. In addition, the Hospital Health Information Management System (HHIMS) has been implemented in national hospitals, teaching hospitals, provincial and district general hospitals, base hospitals and selected divisional hospitals throughout the country.”

Out of the 22 million population of the country, over 8 million patients are registered and around 19 million Electronic Medical Records (EMR) are maintained within the system. Digital health and climate change DPI solutions would play a major role in coming years than ever before in the entire history due to the challenges in both the sector which impact human, animal lives and the overall ecosystem. He also appreciated the support extended to this project, by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Government of India.

Nations around the world have prioritized the development of global digital public infrastructure to meet social, economic, and sustainable development needs as it will also have a powerful impact on building a digital economy.

The summit and exhibition is organized by the G20 Digital Economy Working Group under the Office of the President of India on June 12 and 13. The aims of the conference are to build a high-quality practical understanding of the global digital public infrastructure.

The summit will also have a Global DPI Exhibition, where G20 members and invited countries showcased and demonstrated their population scale DPIs at stalls.
