Cabinet Spokesman, Minister, Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana stated yesterday (3) that a modernized passport will be available at a lower price from October.
He was speaking at the media briefing to announce the weekly Cabinet decisions at Government Information Department yesterday. He said that there has been some delay due to obtaining a digitized passport from an agency other than the agency that has provided passports for a long time and the government expresses its regret for that.
“As per the agreement of the International Monetary Fund, the tender calls and procurement processes should be done in a more transparent manner. So a delay has been caused by obtaining a digitized passport from an organization other than the one that provided the passports for a long time,” he added.
