The Diyawadana Nilame of Kandy Dalada Maligawa Pradeep Nilanga Dela says that complaints are being received that businessmen are selling seats to watch the Kandy Esela Perahera for prices ranging from Rs.40,000 to 50,000.
The Diyawadana Nilame said due to this exorbitant and unfair prices the reputation of the perahera organisers will suffer an irreparable damage both locally and overseas.
He said that Sri Dalada Maligawa or the four Devalaya’s are not involved in this unfair selling of Perahara seats and if authorities do not intervene to control this, the people may ultimately blame the Dalada Maligawa and the four Devalayas.
The Diyawadana Nilame noted the above during a discussion held at the Dalada Maligawa premises to discuss the organization of the Esala Perahara Festival in Kandy.
He stated that although the Perahara is conducted by authorities in charge of Dalada Maligawa and the four Devalayas, they do not get involved in any business of selling seats for money and added if there are any complaints about unfair charges, those complaints should be directed to the Perahara Trust.
