DMC, Ministry joint programme to assist A/L candidates

The Disaster Management Center (DMC) and the Examinations Ministry will jointly carry out a mechanism to minimise the damage caused to students due to disasters during the Advanced Level examination period and to send them for the examination on time.

This move will prevent disruptions due to disasters during the 2024 Examination period.

It cannot be ignored that unexpected weather conditions may occur during the examination period this year since the Meteorological Department has already predicted that a low pressure area may develop over the Bay of Bengal in the coming week. The Disaster Management Center and the Examinations Ministry have planned to implement a special joint programme to avoid disruptions due to possible disasters and to conduct the Advanced Level Examination as usual.

This joint plan has indicated the responsibilities to be fulfilled by all stakeholders to strengthen the emergency response coordination mechanism to avoid disruptions that may be faced by candidates appearing for the examination as well as officials involved in examination duties during the period from November 25 to December 20, when this Advanced Level Examination will be held.

If any student is facing any obstacle to appear for the examination due to a disaster, such student is advised to report it to the Disaster Management Centre’s Hotline number 117 or the Disaster Management Centre’s special joint emergency operations room numbers 0113-668020 / 0113-668100 / 0113-668013 / 0113-668010 and 0763-117117 or the Examination Department’s Hotline number 1911. This special joint emergency operations room number will be operational only in between from November 24 to December 20.

To minimize the disruptions that students may face due to disasters during the examination period, the Disaster Management Center’s Emergency Response Preparedness Plan can also be downloaded from the website. (https://www.dmc.gov.lk/)
