DMT rakes in Rs. 8.9 billion despite vehicle import ban in 2023

The Commissioner General of the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) Nishantha Anurudda Weerasinghe announced that the DMT achieved a historic income of Rs.8.9 billion in 2023, despite the halt in vehicle imports. He stated that this is the highest income ever recorded by the DMT, with a 317% increase from the previous year. The month of December alone saw an income of Rs.1 billion. In 2018, the highest income recorded by the DMT was Rs.4.3 billion with 480,799 registered vehicles.

The historic income of 2023 was achieved with 23,698 vehicle registrations.

Weerasinghe credited the Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana and State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna for their guidance in achieving this remarkable income.
