Doctor’s mother-in-law allegedly issues orders at rural hospital

Staff of the Kurundhuwatte Rural Hospital belonging to the Ganga Ihala Korale Divisional Secretariat are under pressure due to the orders given to them by the mother-in-law of the medical officer in charge of the hospital. The mother-in-law allegedly issues orders while sitting on the doctor’s seat.

The hospital staff alleged that she has taken over the powers of the doctor in charge of the hospital.

The residents of the area allege that the mother-in-law uses the powers of the political authority in the area and commits various misdeeds. They also said that taking over the powers of the doctor in charge of the hospital has caused a lot of trouble to the patients as well.

It is reported that a relative of the mother-in-law has died recently while receiving treatment in the hospital and she has gone to the hospital at around 6.00 pm soon after and arranged to handover the body to the relatives quickly, while sitting on the seat of the Chief Medical Officer.

Someone who was there at the time filmed this incident and posted it on social media.

Although complaints have been made to the provincial health department about this incident, no investigations have been initiated so far due to high-level influence.

When the media inquired from the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer Muditha Edirisinghe about the allegation about his mother-in-law, he said it was one of his relatives who had died, but his mother-in-law did not influence the hospital staff by sitting on his chair.

He said this is a rural hospital and one of the hospital employees had asked her to sit on that chair. He said that he has already lodged a complaint with the Gampola Police against the person who made the video and circulated it.
