Doctors must arrange replacements before going abroad – Chief Prelate

If doctors need to go abroad, they should be asked to serve the country until a substitute is created for the shortage of doctors, Ruwanweliseya Chaityaramadhipathi, Ven. Eethalawetunuwewe Gnanathilaka Nayake Thera made a request.

The Nayake Thera made this comment yesterday (21) when doctors representing the Anuradhapura District doctors of the Government Medical Officers’ Association, visited him, to inform the Nayaka Thera about the health problems and the demands of the doctors in the country.

Addressing the doctors, the Thera also said:Doctors, including specialist doctors who are working to save the lives of the people of the country, have left the country in large numbers. Due to the shortage of doctors in the hospitals, patients are facing great difficulties. The attention of the Government and the Health Minister is requested to prevent the doctors from going abroad in this manner.

Dr. Ajantha Rajakaruna, Assistant Secretary of Government Medical Officers’ Association, Dr. Shashika Withanage, Central Committee Member of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital Branch of Government Medical Officers’ Association and a group of doctors attended the event.

The group of doctors were also scheduled to meet Venerable Walawahengunuwewe Dhammarathana Nayake Thera, Chief Incumbent of the Mihintale Rajamaha Vihara yesterday (21) afternoon.
