Senior Consultant Dr. Ananda Wijewickrema has been appointed as the new Chairman of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA).
The decision was reached when the NMRA Board of Directors convened yesterday at the
Health Ministry under Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana. The NMRA was recently in a controversy over the import of substandard medicines, use of substandard medicines and data deletion. Dr.Wijewickrema joined the government service in 1992 and became a physician in 2000. He works as a senior physician at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.
