Investigations have revealed that the driver of the car involved in the fatal car accident in Kollupitiya, fled to Dubai three and a half hours after the accident. The car driven by the suspect had smashed into a three wheeler in the early hours of Saturday killing the driver.
Police said during investigations it was found the suspect, M.R.M. Rasul (26), has no permanent source of income or any business but he had been acting as a person involved in the media industry.
Investigations have revealed that he has run an office in a rented place in Dehiwala identifying it as a media agency.A senior Police officer said that although he pretended to be a person who ran a media agency, no clues were found to substantiate this claim.
Police had gone to his residence in Wellampitiya but only his mother and one of his brothers had been there at that time. The mother of the suspect had told the Police that her son came home four days before and spent two days and left.
The BMW car he was driving had been taken under a lease facility from a financial institution. Investigations have also revealed that he had been staying at a star class hotel in Colombo in recent times.
Police say that they are investigating whether he was able to go to Dubai within a few hours of the accident after booking the flight tickets during that time or whether he had planned a trip.At the time of the accident, three women who are said to be friends of the suspect and a friend who is engaged in business activities with him in Dubai were travelling in the car.
Police say that all of them were drunk at the time.Police say that they are looking into the possibility of bringing this suspect from Dubai, to Sri Lanka and are studying whether there is a possibility of obtaining a Red Notice against him.
