EC meets on Thursday to discuss LG polls

The Election Commission (EC) is scheduled to meet this Thursday (28) at 10.00 am.

This is the first time that the EC will be meeting again after the conclusion of the Parliamentary Election on November 14.

The EC is scheduled to discuss and decide on the time of holding the Local Government (LG) elections.

Minister Vijitha Herath had stated during an event held in Kandy recently that the Local Government elections will be held in January 2025.

Also, due to the decision of the Court regarding the holding of the Local Government elections, attention of the EC has been also focused on holding this election without further delay.

No money has been allocated for holding the Local Government elections up to now and a final decision is to be taken in this regard by the EC.

Allocation of funds required for the holding of Local Government elections is scheduled to be made through the interim standard account that will be presented by the Government in December before the main budget that will be presented early next year.
