The Election Commission has informed the Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Ministry Secretary to not pay the one time allowance of Rs.10,000 for non-executive government officials who came to work on July 8 and 9 when the government employees went on strike.
The allowance was to be added to this months salary. The Election Commission has stated that since the Presidential Election has been announced, giving such an additional allowance may be interpreted as promoting a political party or a candidate and thus the payment of such an allowance should be given after the election.
The Cabinet had approved to give Rs.10,000 and a certificate of appreciation to the non-executive government officials who did not join the strike and the allowance was to be added to this month’s salary.
