Issuing a statement, the Education Ministry requested the non-academic staff of state universities to refrain from taking trade union action relating to salary anomalies since the government has been looking into the matter to rectify those irregularities promptly, if there are any.
The statement mentioned that since this has been a problem since 2016, the Education Ministry is going to take further steps after receiving the committee report appointed to look into the issue. It is requested to refrain from taking trade union action until taking a long lasting decision.
According to the ministry, salary increases of 92 percent and 107 percent have been given both to academic staff and non-academic staff in public universities in 2016. However, due to the 2016 salary increases, the non-academic staff engaged in a strike stating that there is again a salary disparity in the non-academic staff.
As a result of the discussion between the Education Ministry and Treasury officials in this regard, the relevant committee report has been issued and a cabinet memorandum has been submitted along with the report.
A decision is to be taken after taking the observations of the relevant institutions as there may have been discrepancies between the services after considering the observations of the Treasury in this regard.
Accordingly, since this has been a problem since 2016, the Ministry of Education is going to take further steps after receiving the related decision and until then it is requested to refrain from taking trade union action, the education ministry urged
