The Minister said this while replying a question by Small and Medium Enterprise Development State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera, who was expecting an oral answer regarding the problems of the collapse of the education of university students and the loss of thousands of foreign scholarships due to this strike.
The Minister stated that a discussion was held with the University Grants Commission Chairman yesterday (18) to provide solutions to the related strike and that he is ready to give a written promise regarding the resolution of the salary issue. The Minister said that in 2018, the university’s non-academic and academic staff were given a salary increase, where the academic staff’s salaries were increased by 107 percent and the non-academic staff’s salary was increased by 85 percent. The Minister said that a special committee was recently appointed by the Treasury to resolve the salary issue of non-academic employees and after receiving the report of the committee, the relevant issue will be resolved as soon as possible.
