Efficiency of health workers lauded

As per the instructions given by Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala and Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawardena participated in a sudden inspection tour of the Emergency Unit of the National Hospital, Colombo on Wednesday (6).

The operation theatres, wards, blood bank, as well as essential medicines and other medical equipment including antibiotics, X-Ray examinations and CT Scan examinations of the patients were closely monitored during the inspection tour.

It was observed that the workers of the accident ward were working efficiently. Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala and Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena also appreciated the dedication of the entire health staff, including doctors, nurses and specialists in the treatment services.

The Deputy Director General of the National Hospital Dr. Kumara Wickramasinghe was informed about the urgent measures to be taken to further strengthen the treatment services.

The Emergency Unit of the Colombo National Hospital is the main unit that treats patients who meet with accidents in this country. This 24-hour unit accommodates both critical and non-critical patients. Critical patients are referred for operation theatres and non-critical patients are referred for ward treatment and patients requiring intensive care are referred for that.
