According to the invitation of the Egyptian Ambassador, this meeting was held recently at the Egyptian Embassy in Colombo.
In order to improve the friendship between the two countries, the Egyptian Ambassador pointed out the need for a Sri Lanka-Egypt Parliamentary Friendship Association and said that it needs to be established soon. The Ambassador gave a long explanation about Egyptian history and Egypt-Sri Lanka past relations and said that the friendship can be improved in many fields including economic, political, social, cultural and tourism.
For this purpose, it was decided that a Parliamentary Friendship Association should be formed between the Parliament of Sri Lanka and the Parliament of Egypt first, and Deputy Speaker Rajapaksa said that he has forwarded the proposal to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.
