The Moragahahena Police arrested eight youths who organized motorcycle road races in the Kumbuka area on the Horana-Colombo road through the Facebook.
The suspects were arrested based on a tip-off received by Moragahahena Police Station. OIC Chief Inspector Thusitha Wickramaratne said the the youths were riding motorcycles recklessly from Kumbuka to Gonapala.
Police said the motorcycles had been modified by adding various parts and the side mirrors were also arranged in such a way that they could rotate around.These motorcycles can easily lift the front wheel due to modifications, police say.
An officer who conducted the raid said that most of the bikes taken into police custody had very worn out tires and some of the bikes did not have the registration number plate in the rear.
The arrested suspects are residents of Kalutara, Moronthuduwa and Horana.The suspects will be produced before the Horana Magistrate’s Court.
