The Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court yesterday released eight individuals who allegedly stripped and assaulted a monk and two women in Nawagamuwa recently, on a personal bail of Rs.100,000 each.
The Court ordered the suspects not to engage in any action that affects the witnesses.
The case will be taken up in Courts on November 29. The Nawagamuwa Police earlier arrested the suspects, who forcibly broke into a house in Bomiriya Rassapana area of Nawagamuwa, stripped a young woman and a mother, who were inside the house with a monk and assaulted all three and released a video footage of the assault on social media.
A video showing a monk and two women being stripped and beaten with sticks by a group of people was circulated on social media.
