Eight teams are expected to compete for the Mayor’s Challenge Trophy Mixed Netball championship scheduled to be played on March 23-24 at the BRC grounds. The two-day tournament is conducted by the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Sports and Recreation Department.
The eight teams divided into two groups will battle for this tournament. Sri Lanka Army, Kegalle District, Colombo Municipal Council, and Western Province United teams are in Group A while Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Police, Anuradhapura District, and Ratnapura District teams are in group ‘B’. The tournament is conducted on League basis while top teams of each group will qualify for the semi-finals and winners of the semi-finals will play the final for the Mayor’s Challenge trophy on the 25th.
The tournament Secretary Yamuna Sandamali said this is a mixed Netball tournament which is conducted according to the international rules. “A seven-member team will be eligible to play with three female players.
This tournament will be conducted under the health regulations but open for the spectators during these two days”, added Netball Secretary.
The winner will receive the Mayor’s Challenge trophy and cash awards and certificates while Best Male Player and Female Player will receive special awards from Chance Sports.
The champions will receive awards from Singer Sri Lanka while runners-up will receive special awards from Chance Sports and third place will receive cash awards from CMC Sports and Recreation Consultant Officer Saman Hewawitharana.
