The Election Commission stated that they will be conducting an analysis on the increase recorded in the number of rejected votes in the 2024 Presidential Election which was concluded recently.
The Chairman of the Election Commission R. M. A. L. Rathnayake said yesterday that out of the total of 13,619,916 polled, a total of 300,300 votes had been rejected in the 2024 Presidential Election which is 2.2 percent and in comparison to the 2019 Presidential Election number of total votes rejected, it has seen an increase of rejected votes this time in 2024.
In the 2019 Presidential Election, out of the 13,387,951 votes polled, a total number of 135,452 votes had been rejected which was 1.81 percent and less than the total number of rejected votes in the 2024 Presidential Election.
The Chairman of the Election Commission stated that the Election Commission expects to identify the reasons for the rejection of votes polled and causes for the increase in the total number of rejected votes in the 2024 Presidential election through the analysis that will be conducted.
