Senior DIG in charge of the Election Division Asanka Karavita has issued a notice informing all senior DIGs, DIGs, Inspectors and Police Station OICs to establish election divisions in all Police stations and Superintendent of Police offices.
This division will investigate complaints related to the Presidential Election as well as enforce the law in case of violation of the election law.
A senior officer of the Police Headquarters said that the officers currently working in the Police stations will be used for these divisions and an OIC will be appointed for each division.
“This is not a new move. This is the system we follow in every election,” senior DIG Karavita said.
It is mentioned in the notice given by Karavita that this section should be operated under the supervision of Superintendents of Police and should consist of an officer of the rank of inspector, a sergeant and two constables and a female constable.
