Electricity tariff to reduce by 50% – CEB

The electricity tariff which was increased by 18 percent in October last year is expected to be reduced by 50 per cent soon to provide relief to the public, CEB spokesman, Deputy General Manager Noel Priyantha said yesterday.

He pointed out that even though less rain had been predicted for 2023 as informed by the Department of Meteorology, October, November and December received very heavy rain. He said that the Ceylon Electricity Board will definitely pass on the benefit to the public. Priyantha added that the proposal to reduce electricity charges will be forwarded to the Public Utilities Commission on January 12 or 13 and accordingly, the Public Utilities Commission will take necessary steps to reduce the electricity charges very soon.
